San Saba Annual Pro Rodeo Days

The San Saba Pro Rodeo Days is a two-day event, currently held on a Friday and Saturday in the month of August. Along with the traditional rodeo events each evening, a parade is held on Saturday morning in historic downtown San Saba. A dance immediately follows the close of Saturday night’s events.

The first official San Saba Rodeo was held on June 30, 1938, through July 1,1938, and was sponsored by the San Saba Junior Chamber of Commerce. Over the years, several other organizations have sponsored or helped promote the rodeo so to keep this time-honored tradition alive.

The rodeo was held on Rogan field for many years. Every summer, sand was hauled in and bucking chutes and roping boxes were set up as the community looked forward to “The Rodeo.” After the rodeo was over and the arena was taken down and sand removed, the field was prepared for the upcoming football season. The current arena was constructed in 1974 with volunteer labor and primarily donated materials. Improvements and upgrades over the years have also been accomplished through volunteer efforts.
